The author of the tweet us rightfully getting dragged. She apologized for saying "half" but basically doubled down Some are saying it wasn't a good enough apology, while most are saying it was never meant to be

I don't think it was needed. The media is just going to say "she apologized" and end it there. It was stronger without any walkback. Or she could have said "I only apologize for saying half" to make it clear that that was the only thing she was apologizing for. This was a good opening and I think she closed it by releasing this statement. Shame.
I think the statement was apologetic in nature, but it was more "I'm sorry for how I said it, but I'm not sorry for what I said." It definitely was needed, and the statement still allows her to continue that line of attack - she hasn't backed down from the fact that many of Trump's supporters are actual trash.
I halfheartedly wish she would have just tweeted the Nene Leakes "I said what I said" gif. The faux outrage that would have ensued. The young voter enthusiasm inroads she could have made.

Trump team is smartly making this about elitism and trying to paint him as the uniter. That's one of the problem with the "stronger together" candidate making this type of comment (regardless of the accuracy).

Agreed 100%. The statement was too apologetic for my liking. It should have started (and ended) with "I regret saying half--that was wrong".
For how long must we coddle white middle america though? You'd think they were babies, the way politicians (and the press) hold their hands and give uneducated whites without a college degree--whose lives aren't any better than blacks in the hood-- yummy, complimentary names like the ."white working class"
