Perfect Illusion defies a lot of typical pop tropes. It builds on that first "chorus" and then goes back to the next verse. The key change comes out of nowhere on first listen. You expect the adlibs to be at a lower tone than the bridge vocals. Not to mention her belting, high energy thrown in the whole time as opposed to the easy listening we come to expect.

Once you start to understand the structure of the song itself and can follow along in your head, you start to really embrace the pop elements that remain.

I agree with THIS. The song is definitely a grower and that is probably the reason why. The song doesn't really follow the typical pop-song structure so at first listen it sounds odd. But when you get used to the structure, you get to see how brilliant it is. It's structure, disco-rock sound, and aggressive rage-filled vocals need getting used to but they're also what make the song AMAZING.

Is that legit? 174 spins already? That's actually not that bad. I was hopi g for gradual increases. Like 200 today, 225 tomorrow, 250 Monday etc. anything over 200 for today is like a bonus for me. We can start caring about charts after the video is released

I really don't understand what she was thinking releasing this. Everything she's done recently has corrected her image and won the GP back. She set herself up for a huge comeback. What a waste. She's really lost touch musically. She needs to get out of the 80s but I think it's getting too late for her.

I'm not really worried about PI's floppage IF there's something better, something catchy, something that Gaga forgot to ruin with messy vocals and etc. But she still tarnished her big comeback a bit by releasing a song that is 100% not lead single material and also made sure that the album will have nothing to back on during it's first week.

You don't do Oscars, Grammys, AHS and etc. just to disappoint the public and critics.

Eh. Some of you need to really think about whether you actually do like Gaga or just the dance pop music she used to make. I don't say that lightly either. Many of you are throwing serious insults to her artistry and even her talent all because you're upset she didn't create some grandiose comeback that you had wet dreams about since the Oscar tribute. This is not her make or break, this is yours.

This is not gonna happen. It is sad yes but believe me they certainly chose the song with the biggest chance to smash. Perfect Illusion is still amazing but I can't really enjoy it because of the hate it gets (I know this is stupid I shouldn't care but whatever).
Anyway I should stay away from ATRL for a while because I can't really appreciate this at all here.
Don't expect a major comeback, this is Gaga.
