RR the song is great but the mini is a bit of a flat line. Lucky Girl and Bad Dracula are kind of good, but most of the tracks suffer from the same problem The Red had.
They're either bland altogether (Fool, My Dear) or poorly constructed, which is Lucky Girl, Bad Dracula, Sunny Afternoon, and Some Love's problem. They're better than the worst tracks on The Red but they feel like someone just slapped a combination of notes together. Especially Some Love, which is fine until the verses end and you realize you've been lied to because they disguised awkward silence and a random background sample as a chorus.
Parts like that, the random sinister bells + non-hook in Lucky Girl, that weird rising riff in Bad Dracula, and the overall prevalence of homogeneous, early-SNSD-esque choruses that don't really belong + weird ineffectual chord progressions (or lack thereof) drag the songs down. I hope SM doesn't stick with this sound for RV b-sides for long because compared to their title tracks and songs like SKC and Oh Boy, which have working hooks and actually flow, it really doesn't measure up.
But also RR the song is like great so I shouldn't really complain.
NOOOOooooo
Red Velvet served Albums until now... What's happening?
I legit HATE Russian Roulette and the entire mini. I kinda liked Some Love but it is literally just a copy of Justin Bieber's Sorry with Korean lyrics. Lucky Girl started off good but when those horrible bells came in it became a total mess. I hate all the other tracks. What a huge step DOWN from ICC and The Red. I'm so disappointed in this mini album, it's SO tragic.
For those who don't like the RR cover, I have made one for you!
It's not great but this is the only group pic we have, so far, in HQ so... hope you like it
