Celine's peak lasted 4 years hun 93-97 and she sold 90M albums including a 10M selling french album. I'm not even including the Titanic soundtrack
Celine is not an actress so that comparison is stupid. This is about who was more global and facts show that Celine sold more albums GLOBALLY , made more from touring AND was more popular in french speaking countries (I can't by the way at yall thinking that french = France and Canada )
and all that at her PEAK
I would even expand it since, in 1998, MYWGO reached its peak, LTAL sold most of its copies, she had the second biggest French album of all time, as well as one of the top selling Christmas albums of all time; and in 1999 All The Way was a huge success and gave her one of her biggest and most-played singles. That whole period was a huge rush of Celine projects and she was a promotion dynamo.
Why was this reported? It has been mentioned that I Will Always Love You charted has charted in Africa (countries in Africa). I specifically asked if it truly has because I checked on Wikipedia (Yes I know not the best source) but I could not find anything.
A slight overestimation is 1 million or less. An overestimation of 5 million is not slight at all. It's a HUGE overestimation. I understood your point completely but your numbers were completely wrong. Hence why I said no. Get it now?
No it isn't. Slight means small in degree or amount. Adding 5 million to 25 million is a 20% increase out of 100. Comparatively, it's a small increase in amount. In any event, the point stands.

Roughly means approximately, not exact. I disagreed by saying no, it sold 10 million. In any event, there was no point in you even saying "roughly" in agreement. Not responding to it at all would've sufficed.

It's her album because she contributed to at least half of it. She was the artist and executive producer who sang half the songs. That meets the criteria for it being HER album. That's already been explained to you.

End of discussion.
And Celine doesn't have an album that has sold as much as The Bodyguard. The question didn't ask who had a studio album to sell 30 million. It asked who was more global at their peak. And Whitney with her bigger album, bigger songs, bigger tour and global film wins.
Celine's sales are only what they are due to the amount of material she released. Whitney took long breaks. So it's not so much Celine being more global as it is her capitalizing off her then new-found global success. Celine's album-per-year schedule meant her commercial peak was LONGER, not bigger. However, The Bodyguard lasted Whitney from 1992-1995. She was still promoting that album in concert in early 1995. She sold in an insane amount of albums globally and only needed one album to do it. As for touring, most of the dates sold out on The Bodyguard Tour. Even after The Bodyguard she was still highly successful as a touring act. In 1999, she had the highest tour in Europe. It was a complete sell-out.
To finally silence those saying The Bodyguard isn't a Whitney album. At 6:48:
And here's an example when it isn't a Whitney album. At 2:02.
You're nitpicking over a slight estimation. 30 million, 25 million, 243 million, either way it was still a huge album, which was the point of my original post.
Read the above post.
So if they're the same thing what was the point of you saying "roughly" instead of just leaving it as is?
Okay, again, how does this refute the fact it is STILL Whitney's album? Soundscan not counting it toward her total sales has to do with their own system, it doesn't have anything to with the fact that it is still her album. They don't count The Preacher's Wife either, and she did that entire soundtrack. Is it not still her album if they don't count it toward her sales? Sound Scan not counting it toward her total sales as part of their criteria, doesn't change the fact Billboard, RIAA and every award show ceremony calls it a Whitney album.
I never said The Bodyguard was a studio album. Brush up on your comprehension skills. I said it is her album.
When I said most of her sales come from outside of the United States, I was speaking of her total sales, not one album. So this little comparison you did was pointless.
And Whitney's debut was not her peak, so I don't know why you included it in the context of comparing it to Celine's peak. The Bodyguard was her peak, and that album sold more than what those albums sold individually. And you're concentrated within album sales when it's more to being global than album sales. During Whitney's peak, she had the more global album, bigger global song, a global film and her tour touched on more continents, while selling them out. Whitney was more global.
Then you shouldn't have even made this ridiculous statement.

Actually, 25 million. I overestimated. Still a huge album, which was the point of my post. The Bodyguard is HER album. Don't be sorry, just be right next time.
Whitney was still more global at her peak. Not only did she have the best-selling female album and soundtrack out, but she was star of the second highest grossing film of that year and embarked on one of the biggest tours of that year, which touched on 5 continents. Her reach was broader during her peak than Celine's. I Will Always Love You is also the best-selling female single ever. That song alone is more global than any single Celine released at her peak.
25 million. Still a huge album.
20 million. Still a huge album.
No, 10 million.
And NARAS states that if an artist or producer performs at least half of the recordings, then it's their album. Which is why they awarded Album of the Year to her and the producers and not the other artists. RIAA and Billboard also acknowledges it as a Whitney album. If The Bodyguard isn't Whitney's album then Saturday Night Fever isn't The BeeGees' album.
No it isn't. Slight means small in degree or amount. Adding 5 million to 25 million is a 20% increase out of 100. Comparatively, it's a small increase in amount. In any event, the point stands.
Right. Adding 1 million to 25 million is a 4% increase out of 100. Therefore, as opposed to a 4% increase, a 20% increase is a HUGE increase. Therefore, I stand correct.

No. Roughly means "not exactly, but close". It sold around 10 million, which is the same as saying it sold 10 million or roughly 10 million. It's still the same thing. I can respond to it if I choose to please. Again, it's all the same thing.

Just because one album alone shifted 40 million units doesn't mean someone is more global than someone else. Celine managed to have 2 albums back to back which sold 30 million each which is unprecedented. Therefore in albums Celine is bigger. Also, just like Whitney Celine won Album of the Year at the 1997 Grammy Awards.
MHWGO and IWALY are also both monumental songs which were global hits all around the world. They are pretty much even in songs. Both have won Record of the Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance at the Grammy Awards.
Now with tours, how much did each respective tour gross?
Since you want to mention films, Titanic was bigger than The Bodyguard despite Celine not starring in it. Titanic was critically acclaimed and grossed more than The Bodyguard.
Right. Adding 1 million to 25 million is a 4% increase out of 100. Therefore, as opposed to a 4% increase, a 20% increase is a HUGE increase. Therefore, I stand correct.
Like I said, it was a slight overestimate. You'll live with that.

Exactly 2 albums. Whitney released one that sold 40 million. Celine needed two albums to touch Whitney's peak. Do you not see how Whitney has the advantage over her for that simple fact?

What was the point of mentioning this? Whitney was not only the star of her film, but she sang the theme to it. She plays the most integral role in the film's success. And even without The Bodyguard, Whitney has a huge, memorable career. Without The Titanic and that song, Celine has very little memorable about her. The Titanic film is the reason for the success of My Heart Will Go On, which in turn, contributed to the success of her albums released around that time.. Whitney is the reason for the success of The Bodyguard and I Will Always Love You. See the difference? You really played yourself mentioning that is if the success of that film is Celine's.

Too late. You already failed with that attempt at being witty or clever. No editing allowed. Your plans have FAILED.
That's why she has WAY MORE impressive certifications all around the world I guess?
"next to nothing"
Whitney Houston
Falling Into You
Let's Talk About Love
Not alone the certifications are way higher for Céline but moreover she has way more. Isn't it obvious at this point?
Her French albums (the 80s releases) did nothing outside of the Francophone countries, and were regularly outsold by Whitney's 80s releases, which is what I was getting at.
Quote:
La Voix Du Bon Dieu (1981)
50.000.
Céline Dion Chante Noël (1981)
25.000.
Tellement J'ai D'amour Pour Toi (1982)
150.000 (certifié 100.000 au Canada)
Les Chemins De Ma Maison (1983)
150.000 (certifié 50.000 au Canada)
Chantes Et Contes De Noël (1983)
75.000
Mélanie (1984)
175.000 (certifié 50.000 au Canada)
Les Plus Grands Succès De Céline Dion (1984)
75.000
C'est Pour Toi (1985)
50.000
Céline Dion En Concert (1985)
50.000
Les Chansons En Or (1986)
150.000
Incognito (1987)
500.000 (certifié 200.000 au Canada)
Her French albums did not gain any notable success outside of the Francophone diaspora until she came to the US and was marketed as a White Whitney Houston who appealed to the adult contemporary market after she gained popularity through her English albums.
Also note their biggest albums, TBG and LTAL. While TBG outsold LTAL by over 8 million+ copies (based on estimations), its sales were also more widespread (aka global).
Quote:
The Bodyguard (1993)
USA : 17.200.000
Canada : 1.700.000
Mexique : 600.000
Argentine : 320.000
Brésil : 775.000
Australie : 450.000
Japon : 2.850.000
Corée du Sud : 1.200.000
Taiwan : 400.000
Indonésie : 400.000
Consequently, I will be able to post videos of Whitney touring 5 continents with her tour. You, with Celine, however, will not.
Please be advised that selling 30 million with back-to-back releases is merely a testament of popularity, not who is more global because based on certification....
Quote:
Falling Into You (1996)
USA : 12.800.000
Canada : 1.800.000
Brésil : 150.000
Mexique : 100.000
Argentine : 90.000
...the sales for both Celine albums come from nearly all the same countries, while the sales for TBG come from over 20 countries around the world, and broke markets that would later allow Celine to sell albums, because she was marketed based on Whitney's template, with new markets Whitney hadn't previously penetrated with previous releases.
Like I said, it was a slight overestimate. You'll live with that.
Nah it was more than a slight overestimate.

those aren't certifications. also, you've posted them in attempt to prove that Whitney's sales were more widespread, yet neglected to mention (or even notice?) that the territories listed don't account for 4,750,000 of Falling into You's sales, and 5,415,000 of Let's Talk About Love's (but only 1,990,000 of the Bodyguard's). certainly worth a mention.
