Britney's song is only performing better due to it being an actual lead single, discounted to 69 cents, and was heavily promoted on Carpool Karaoke and at the VMAs.
The other things happening weren't really that far left field, either. Posner's hit was a remix produced by a hot new European producer and Halsey's current hit can be attributed to The Chainsmokers, who are among the hottest American breakout acts of the year, so in reality she's coasting off of their success.
"Perfect Illusion" could have done the same if she had released it last year hot off the heels of "Uptown Funk!" But alas, she is incapable of making adequate business decisions, so the song may find a middling success a la "Applause" at best.
