I'm against banning it and also against forcing women to wear it. If a woman chooses to wear it, she should have the right to.

Ban it - not because I think there's anything inherently wrong with it, but the religion and reasoning used to explain / justify it are just simply sexist and wrong. Of course most of the indoctrinated women who wear it would say it's their choice (well those living outside extremist regimes), but at the end of the day it's an impractical, not sensible item of clothing.

We are all humans, we do not need to cover or hide ourselves from each other because of some stupid fantasy religion. But I say that for all religions - neither Christianity or Buddhism is particularly pro-body and self-expression, all religions shame sex to some extent, or have issues with homosexuality, or transgender people.

So we can all point at Islam and act like it's the most perverse and offensive religion purely because it is more foreign to most of us, and because ISIS extremists pervert discourse into having the Islamic religion intertwined with it, but really none are perfect and all have questionable histories.

It has nothing to do with being gay cuz I'm certain the majority of the free world also favors a ban.

Quite frankly I think the safety of myself and my people is more important than some religious fanatics tbh.

Also why should we accept the burqa (which is totally non-conform with the open and transparent society we live in), while our women who go to the arab peninsula need to be fully covered? What kind of double standards? If we have some kind of self respect left in the West we say no just like the arab world says no to us.

Im against forcing it on women like some extremist groups do, but if a muslim woman wants to wear it, who am I to forbid it to her? Its part of their culture and traditions and it predates Islam. And not only muslim women cover their faces and wear veils. Tuareg men cover their faces with veil, while their women dont.

I echo some earlier statements that the burqa is, indeed, a part of the Islamic culture and opposite many opinions of Western society, is often a route women in that culture choose to wear for purposes of religion. It originated as a fashionable item of clothing pre-dating Islam, and integrated as the appropriate clothing for women in society.

I feel like as outsiders, it's pretty easy to peer into their lives and judge the way they go about, what makes them feel comfortable, and make comments about how incorrect it is and how such behaviour or set of beliefs has no place in society. It's a poisonous thought process (i.e. bigotry) that we should be careful to reserve. If a woman wants to wear a burqa under her religious beliefs, she should be free to since it does not infringe upon anyone else's rights. It is clear that many women want to wear the clothing for a variety of reasons, although all tied to religion.

I fail to see where the burqa poses a national security threat beyond what appears to be anti-Islamic propaganda and reinforces the ideas of Muslim terrorism.

Don't ban it. Women should be able to wear or not wear anything they want. Yet another instance where people think it's okay to try and regulate what a woman can or can't do with her own body, this is just getting so tiring.
