Out of the new gen girl groups, I can only imagine BLACKPINK and MAMAMOO smashing with a ballad tbh.
I doubt Twice and GFRIEND will ever release one. Red Velvet did it and failed. Not too sure about IOI. MAMAMOO's pre-release song was a ballad and did really well. OMG could slay a ballad, but the charts will probably disagree

OMG need to do a remake of an old famous ballad and get a hit
GFRIEND would probably smash with a ballad because of the hormonal volatility of their base, they actually have a vocal who can sing one and their faces can look sad.
i feel like NCT DREAM is gonna be one of my favorite/most favorite sub units. im already loving this aesthetic already tbh & i KNEW they were going to deliver bops and this is exactly what i'm talking about. the addictive verse already stuck in my head, yas!
& HyunA is so ****ing adorable. she can go from 'ima throw my kitty kat in your face and you gonna like it' to 'sweet & humble girl next door'. i hope U&ME gets a video next too
Talking about ballads, I can't believe It's Ok is BTOB's best selling ballad (and song in general) when it's the worst out of the 3 Tbh their last japanese sing is better than all of them

Red Velvet did not fail. It didn't do as well as Dumb Dumb but I'm tired of people saying it flopped when the sales were not that bad. Especially as girl groups hardly release ballad title tracks and promote them.
They sold 30K+ first week sales which is more than I.O.I sold with their first mini. The Velvet has sold around 50K.

They also won music shows with a ballad single.
TWICE, GFriend and I.O.I are not capable of it.
I think they are talking about digital sales and they are correct, "If I Were You" of 2NE1 or "Crying" of Sistar sold twice the amount of downloads of "OOTN" and they weren't promotional singles

I didn't see digital sales mentioned anywhere. Just whether new gen GGs could pull off a ballad.
And anyway, even if it underperformed digitally, it sold not badly in physical sales. They did better than Luna's solo debut and she promoted a dance song and is more well known from f(x).
Hardly any GGs promote a full ballad as their comeback stage. SM took a risk and RV didn't fail completely with the concept, even though the girls said they were worried about it.
