Unless Apple decides to reduce the price for all songs, we'll have half charts discounted for a while now.
The same is happening in other countries, look at UK or Australia iTunes. In Australia Cold Water was discounted for its first two weeks while Closer was discounted when it was already #1 by a pretty big margin.
In other countries like Italy and Germany half of the top50 is consisted in discounted songs for years.
Remember when people used to "shade" Demi using the discount argument? Well... 16 songs in the top 100 has a discount, 7 of them in the top 20/10 and some of them are for big artists (Ariana, Britney, Shawn)
I always thought that was weird....I mean albums are discounted all the time on itunes and no one complains. I still think individual songs should all be $.99 or below....like you would think in this sales climate record labels would recognize that $1.29 is a weird pricing strategy. idk.
Sales would increase for singles if they lowered their price to $.99. The amount of songs I couldn't buy because I didn't have $1.29 were too many
Also I don't buy many songs because I'm not going to spend so much on a song that isn't from any of my favourite artists, if they were cheaper I would change my mind tho.

Apple won't decrease the price of singles anytime soon. There's no guarantee that sales will double if the price decreased to 69c or increased by 50% if the price is 99c.
Even the current discounted songs don't double sales despite the fact that they get front page promo all throughout their entire run.
at Bieber getting completely overshadowed again.
