I think you already answered your own question. The media promotes and upholds relationships with whites as the ideal, so of course that's what we're all going to aim for. White people are the pinnacle of society, a symbol of "making it", so to speak. They are also the pinnacle of beauty in the media, so it only makes sense that everyone would aim high first.
Personally, I would love to date an Asian or a middle eastern guy. But they only want white men too, so I'm out of luck there.
I'm fine dating other black men and latino men, etc (but they also usually just want white men
). There's plenty of sexy brown men to choose from, and if other guys don't want them then that's more for me.
They come of out just beautiful and exotic! Many times they have that bubble butt that I love! I have been trying to get with one but they are rare and tend to be straight many times 
LOL. We need more of that mix to produce those babies!
