Gaga is a phenomenon. She didn't only have huge success when she first came out, she also had the drive and the passion which many artists don't have or lack nowadays. She made pop music much more interesting again. Her star power was unmatched.

I don't think we'll ever see another artist just break out and smash like that ever again. Streaming and social media have changed the music industry. Music is more democratically consumed nowadays, whereas Gaga debuted in the days where a small group of artists pushed by major record labels pretty much monopolized the music industry.

Nowhere as close though. Gaga's name was everywhere in the wotld. People around the world thought she was gonna be the next Madonna and there were legitimate reasons considering sales and media attention to consider that to be true at the time.

I don't think we'll see such a meteoric rise in a long time. Bruno is very big around the globe but he had a steady rise, very fast but across the years. Katy and Taylor have also been steadily rising.

This is so true, thanks to Spotify people are able to find way more music than when they just listen to the radio so they branch out their music taste and listen to more underground artists.

She basically just exploded because of people redeeming their iTunes vouchers after Xmas 2008, that's what kept "Just Dance" #1 around January 2009

Now it's about streaming.

Maybe the industry should start giving away streaming vouchers to have someone like Gaga debut again?
