Why can't folks just appreciate her as a stand alone artist with her own legacy. Her own career trajectory.
I think it's mostly because stans need a benchmark for their fave's success. But Rih has sold over 200 million records in a span of just eleven years and at the age of of 28 so I agree, she doesn't need to be the new or black anything.
MTV said they're honoring Rihs videos and impact on fashion so I think either there will be a video montage of people talking about her or models will come out in her most memorable looks before her performance.
As long as it's better than the BBMA Icon PowerPoint presentation.
I'm a bit confused about the festival backlash or whatever
Whenever I go to lollapalooze performers are NEVER on time and headliners often end "early" because their setlists don't last a full two hours. Maybe in the states it's different but the times aren't a hard-and-fast rule... like I saw The Weeknd and he did exactly what was described but got no backlash and no one was mad because we got a head start on exiting the festival

Since the last tour she has got this blown out of proportion reputation of being 'hours late' and whenever she's 5 minutes late for a concert everyone's like 'well that's Rihanna, always late'.
