This. Born This Way killed ARTPOP. Releasing Born This Way as the lead hurt her. it only went #1 bc of the hype. Releasing Judas as the 2nd single when the 1st single was still doing fine with the title 'judas' on easter week hurt her worse. releasing them back to back damaged the era and brand before it started. Then when she performed You and I at the vmas when it wasnt even a single yet even worse.
Should've been:
1) TEOG Feb- 11th- May 10th
2) BTW- May 10th- August 10th.
3) Hair- August 10th- November 1st.
4) You And I- November 1st- January 15th.
5) Marry The Night- January 15th- April 1st.
It was a single already though. It had impacted radio and had its video out way before the VMA performance.
why TF did she release a ballad in the middle of sumemer tho? smh.
Does August really count as the middle of summer? I think they had planned to have it be an autumn hit with the VMA effect, but whatever, it was five years ago now.
You & I was the right single choice after TEOG. The GP was here for it, it did well at radio, sold over 2 million, good peak position, good longevity, talent show staple. It was a hit in the US at least so not sure why some people in here continue to pretend like it was some catastrophe
