I, as a black person, have MANY thoughts on the black community. We have so many problems. And unfortunately, I think our own mindset has landed us where we are today. We're underachievers. We don't have a sense of personal responsibility. Again, I think a lot of this comes down to poor decision making.
But go further Giselle. WHY do black people have that mindset?
Could it perhaps be the result of a society that disadvantages the average black person socioeconomically from the get-go? When society hammers institutionalized racism into a group (starting with slavery and currently being at the hands of socioeconomic disadvantages), that affects the group psychologically and has been shown to cause internalized racism which is effectively the acceptance of racist beliefs about one's own group which basically explains what you're describing. If you haven't read it, I'd strongly recommend reading The Psychology of Racism by Robin Nicole Johnson to find out more.
At the end of the day, none of the blame for socioeconomic disadvantages faced by black people today should be placed upon black people themselves. Everything you wrote in the post above is just a symptom of a greater problem and if we want to resolve it we need to go further.
You're totally ignoring the fact that if people don't have an equal (or at least a closer to equal) socio-economic playing field to build upon in their life then they're not going to "succeed" equally.
In 2016, America is the most unequal it has ever been in history. The assertion that anyone can succeed in America if they put their mind to it is literally the most unrealistic it has ever been.
But you might be misunderstanding me. I don't think everyone can magically become wealthy or make six figures, but I DO feel that everyone able-bodied has the potential to live a productive and self-sufficient life.

We have all had him on our radar.
Personnel has been sending him options.
Doug says "Great" in response
Almost blatant quid pro quo. Lol, the words "favor" and "taken care of" are clear as day in writing. I'd be shocked if that FBI doesn't have this and are looking into conducting an investigation for a RICO violation. Maybe that's why Comey wouldn't comment.
I think that there is such a victim mentality both within and pushed upon the black community that has truly stifled. Yes, the hood is a bad place. But I don't know exactly what we're waiting on. Are we waiting on a white President, Mayor, Governor -- whatever, to come save us? When is that 15-16 year old going to decide he wants a better life for himself? When does he say "NO, I won't drop out of school." "NO, I won't sell drugs." "NO, I won't SHOOT the kid down the street?" When are parents going to decide to instill certain values in their children? I know that I come off as condescending in regards to this issue but I truly do want to see the black community evolve. I just don't have the typical liberal view on how that happens.
Now Giselle, I said a similar thing way back in this thread about "black" upward mobility...only more bluntly and you was about ready to banish me from this thread. What caused the dramatic evolution?
The Black community needs to quit listening to charlatans like Sharpton, and Jackson...and realize the problem comes from within. Racism is always going to exist (it's a pipe-dream to think otherwise), you just have to rise above it, in spite of it. Self reliance is the only way to increase upward mobility. Also, some have to quit expecting the government to support them...that co-dependency doesn't push them to have a better life either.

Of course. Slavery happened. The discrimination of the 1900's happened. And there's still racism today. All of which have had profound effects on the black community. We were held back and not given a fair start. But at what point do we decide that we're going to do better? It's not impossible. There ARE black people doing well. We're not under some magical spell. Sure, Laquan in the hood has it harder than Richard Wright III from Manhattan. But that doesn't mean Laquan can't do well for himself. I mean, it's just damn insulting that people act like this.

Be shocked, the investigation is over and if there was anything important about this email we would know. The election is in less than three months.

Girl, what the hell are you talking about? No offense, but everything you say is trollish and has a... cartoon like tone too it, so that's probably why I dragged you (though I don't remember this).
Also, we can post negative things about Hillary all day everyday until the election and there's nothing you all can do about it, so the childish crying and whining needs to end. It's getting old and I'm going to starting reporting these crybaby rants; the rules are clearly outlined on the front page. "What, do you want me to vote for Trump?", I don't care who you vote for at this point, there four major candidates in this race.

Johnson and Stein aren't major candidates.
And yeah, you can post whatever you want. Just like how we can respond and say it's silly.

The investigation about mishandling classified info is over, Clinton has other investigation still ongoing, and this could be one we don't know about yet.

We'd know about it. They're not going to launch significant investigations into a candidate and not resolve them - or even publicize them - by the middle of August.

I agree it's not impossible. I never said it was.
The problem is that on AVERAGE that's not the case - and when you have an inequality evident in society which has been caused and entrenched by the action (and inaction) of the state, it's naive to think that a bit of "we can do this" is going to be able to solve the problem. The state has a role, if not an obligation, to amend the wrongs it caused.
The "bad mindset" of black people didn't cause the underlying inequality present today, so I don't see how you can think changing a mindset alone can remove it.

No, it didn't cause it. But it is what sustains it. And it is changeable. These are fixable problems.

But what you need to accept is that it's a symptom of institutionalized racism and you won't fully be able to fix it until you remove the institutionalized racism against the group.
I agree that they're 100% fixable, you just have to go further up and address the root cause rather than focus on a downstream symptom that comes about as a result of a racist sociopolitical system.

I do recognized that. But I also recognize that we do have a role in this. And we lack accountability. And frankly, we've taken comfort in losing. I think we have it in ourselves to change this. "Institutional racism" isn't going to suddenly disappear. "Waiting" for "the system" to change is going to keep us in these circumstances for generations upon generation. There's too much opportunity in this world for that.
