After having heard the song, I didn't know how to describe the feeling of being let down. I found the answer in that review from the other thread:
"The whole vibe of “Private Show”, to be a bit blunt, is corny and even annoying at times. Her voice sounds super nasally to a point where it’s uncomfortable. The melody isn’t very appealing or catchy and the music itself sounds like an amateur put it together. Unfortunately, this is a major step down from what could have been a major step in the right direction for Britney’s career."
Now, I love Britney and have all her albums. Her discography is amazing and one of the best out there. You can't deny that. But I'm not gonna be blind and say how I adore the song, when it's possibly her weakest effort since some songs from the debut album.
I don't know what to expect from the album now. I didn't love Make Me and found it only ok-ish. This new song is not giving me any hope that the album will be the masterpiece she could deliver. I truly believe that someone who gave us In The Zone and Blackout could deliver another brilliant album. But this is lacking. I know that some of you will try to force themselves to like it but be honest - this is not what we want from Brit.
I still have hope that the album will give me a few bops but surely not as a whole body of work. Private Show will be deleted immediately.

This is a bit of an overreaction to two songs, and is most certainly an overgeneralization of fans. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean that it is objectively "bad" and that anyone else who likes the track is doing so because they are forcing themselves to. Your opinion and feelings do not extend to the population of Britney fans just because they are particularly strong. That is just simple logic. I have been a fan of hers since I was 12 and I have observed the ups and downs of her career, musically and personally, as a huge fan with a lot of emotional ties to her persona and her music. ITZ is my favorite album from her, with
Blackout being second, and I do not think BJ is a very good album; it is extremely unpolished and distant, and, for me, does not remotely channel the hooks and memorable pop sounds she is known for, and therefore doesn't "feel" like her at all save for a few bright spots.
That all being said, I really am loving "Private Show". I don't mind the vocals at all, I think the production is really quirky, and I love hearing her be so engaged in a song and having a blast with it. I don't feel obligated to like this song any more than I felt obligated to like the half-hearted attempts at memorable dance-pop on BJ; I just like it. I get that some people in literally
every era are bound to have "I wish she'd go back to X sound" meltdowns like this here and there (I have seen this without fail, and I have been posting on fan forums since the release of
Britney), but not sure what qualifies any one person here to presume to speak on behalf of her entire fanbase just because they stop loving a direction she takes.
