standardized tests in general need to be 'REBUKE HA'd from the school systems

they are not accurate and inclusive reflections of every student's potential , and the schools need to do better at determining the trajectory of their students cause not every girl / boy is cut out for college and does not need to be falsely sold that dream

and that's the simple tea

It's already been said that Common Core's full impact won't be seen for years. The real results will come for the kids in Pre-K-1st who started taking the courses from the beginning.

It's harder for people who had to switch from the old standards to the new way in their middle/high schools years.

You can't just eliminate standardized testing though. What about students who excel in them but struggle with grades for reasons not related to actual aptitude?

This pissed me off earlier this year when my school made an optional "test free" admissions track if you interviewed instead.

Like huh? Where the hell's my "grade free" track where I can just give you my top-percentile in the nation ACT and SAT scores, knock an interview out of the park, and not have to mention to anyone the time I failed freshman advanced English because that teacher and his system didn't work for me at all? It's not black, it's not white, it's very, very grey.

Yeah, they'll all be great at doing those Common Core tests that they've been trained in since Kindergarten

I think we're gonna see a BIGGER divide between charters/privates and publics once Common Core has reached its full impact.

I see what you're saying. For a century now, the parties always split when something major happens, but then they come home eventually.

Like when the Dems split over Vietnam War and let Republicans run the show for decades. Now it seems to be going in the other direction. But I don't know. It all comes down to a POTUS Clinton. If she truly does have a Obama 3rd/4th term, the anti-establishment may shake things up and we'll finally get a Trump/Bernie radical one day. And that's a scary thought.

yes lets just forever tilt it in favor of the people who are good test takers (not me)

tests are stupid, there needs to be practical application assessments that display your knowledge; not timed, multiple choice tests literally designed to trick u.

you can't do one thing without pissing off the other side , so i guess everything should just stay stagnant ! truly the American way

The ones who was most affected by Common Core was people like myself who just graduated this year and for the teens who are about to graduate in the remainder of this decade.

That's normal. Most educational programs take years to show a full impact for the simple fact it takes time to transition kids. This was always the premise, and it was once a bi-partisan agreement.

I never liked college's requirements for ACT/SAT scores. Those tests are super easy (for people like me) or super hard for people. It's never in between.

I think a person's 4 year high school experience and that college's administrated test should accurately determine if that child is prepared for their college.

But I didn't at any point say we should leave things stagnant and do nothing, so that's a very strange thing to imply that I suggested!

To repeat, I said that we can't erase standardized testing because some people don't do well with them, and ignore the portion of our students who are literally the opposite and work better with testing.

True, but Common Core really isn't that hard. I don't get it. I know every child is different, which I guess is the point, but still. It's something I personally had trouble understanding the opposition.

And I said, Common Core is not mandatory now. States can reject it thanks to ESSA, if I'm correct.

It's working in some places. It's not in others. States can now determine which route to go.
