This is ridiculous. Mercedes-Benz isn't driven in every country, that does negate them from being one of the most prolific car manufacturers in the world.

And there are plenty of artists who are passed their primes, yet they're still regarded as legends. Why is it different for Janet?

And the distinction between "legend" and "icon" is very clear.

Of course not. Just because these artists were in their prime 40 years ago doesn't mean they are legends today. They have impact but not enough success or acclaim/recognition to be considered legends (especially Joni).

A legend is an artist who has strong sales, strong acclaim and strong influence. If you don't have all 3 of those things then you can't really be considered a full legend.

So yes that means artists like David Bowie and Cher are not full blown legends but people like MJ, Whitney and Beyonce are.
