People should not belittle other's accomplishments, no matter their scope or importance.
However, expecting others to acknowledge someone with a vague subjective description like "legendary" is a little presumptuous, not to mention somewhat narcissistic.
Also this ignores cultural boundaries. Janet Jackson is irrelevant to any country that isn't the USA. Sure her music was played elsewhere on radio stations but that was about it. Why should they be forced to acknowledge an artist that existed before the explosion of social media and globalization?
Not to mention that if every artist was acknowledged from here-on out for their accomplishments, there'll be a never-ending list of names that would essentially limit any discussions about "legandary" status to living in the past.
So no I disagree. Being rude and condescending towards Janet is one thing and should stop especially since she hasn't done anything antagonistic to anyone to warrant a negative disposition. (Although I've noticed people hate other pop stars for simply existing...) Expecting people to have to acknowledge her in every discussion when she's long passed her prime in a bounded cultural event is another
