When people say rock I'm pretty sure they're talking something like You & I mixed with classic bluesy sounds. Like this
People have posted things much worse than this. Things that sound flat and boring.

I feel like since we've been given this narrative that Gaga is no longer commercially viable, we're now expecting her to do cabaret music.
Rock in 2016 is so vague and expansive. Like, Rock is mixed into literally everything these days and I think it's better to explore that sound-wise instead of re-creating the exact sound of the 70's for example. You can find hundreds and hundreds of bands and artists on the" Alternative" scene that have fused rock/soft rock/pop styles with Dance, Electronica (CHVRCHES), R&B (Miguel, Haim, Wet), Hip-Hop, Reggae, everything. Like if Gaga wants to be respected as an artist, she doesn't have to act like an old soul and strip herself completely of excitement and Gaga-ness.
The fame is miles better than ARTPOP and anyone who disagrees is still stuck in 2013, there is a reason why The Fame is one of the most successful pop albums of all time and remains in the top 100 on iTunes 8 years after it's release.

I was being generous giving MJH and Manicure the win too. On top of this, The Fame is much more consistent conceptually and musically. Their is a theme, a message in it. Where ARTPOP is kinda just all over the place. The Fame is much better than ARTPOP
