You'd think after reading some of these meltdowns that she just performed this set in front of millions at the Super Bowl Halftime or something.
If anything that February showed us this year, it's that she slays during her performances when all eyes are on her.
For a private concert with a small audience, this was fine.
A different take on her "new" vocals might be that it's a branding exercise.
Perhaps she felt she should adopt a distinctive singing style because she didn't have one, and her idols all do/did. If she continues a toned down look and theatrics, then she needs "Gaga" to remain identifiable in it. She's got a visual legacy, but she wants a musical one.
There's also the probable reason that it's to emulate her idols and seem more 'legit' as she ventures away from dance/pop.
As for the performance, it was enjoyable. I liked it mostly. Sure, it's different from the old Gaga but I feel it's so obvious why she's moving in this direction that the bigger picture trumps any issues. It's presenting her as a respectable muso to the older crowd and skeptics who may have newfound respect for her and might buy her records if it's less "old Gaga". They're the people she needs to appeal to commercially, not tweens.
You do know who Gaga is right? How she first started making and performing music? Of course you do.
This is her purest self, she ****ing owned the stage with her presence, her looseness and just her performing and riffing with a band. Her big pop songs work just as well in this style of arrangement as they do as in a big pop concert setting. Context people.
The Bad Romance performance scalped me, her vocals have never been better
This is just a testament to how incredible an artist she is. Not many artists could take a off the walls dance song and turn it into a slow acoustic ballad
I just watched Bad Romance and it was amazing, her vocals and the jazzy rearrangements >
Screaming at the overreactions. Like others have said, this is a political event. She's been working with Mark Ronson and ****ing Bloodpop, like, chill. It's true that even if she does pop again it's likely that it's going to be more toned down, but just wait for the actual era to come to say that "she's not Lady Gaga". Y'all are dragging her so unfairly.
Y'all are something else if nothing this is Gaga in her most purest form, y'all only want her when she is poppy, she is more than that, she started like this she and her piano, she can do this and then smash a pop song, this was only an intimate performance not you all expecting she would gather her dancers when she is in the middle of recording her new album.
I hope Gaga really hates you because you are unbearable and lack of common sense. When she comesback you will judge whatever you want which is probably you will do if she flops, the only thing that I see is wrong with her is how she is distant from her fans but seeing you and your comments I know why she can't stand you anymore and prefer to not interact.
I think a lot of people, myself included, don't like the exaggerated-vibrato-slurred-dope vocals that she's only recently adopted. It's an opinion that we have the right to express. And of course, it's tiresome to hear covers instead of her own music, but this clearly wasn't the time nor the place for that.
I agree that this is classic Gaga, and we've always appreciated her acoustic performances, but her vocal style has changed dramatically. Yes she's vocally stronger, I don't think anyone's disputing that, but you can't expect everyone to scream 'SLAY' if we don't like it... I don't see it as being ungrateful, just sharing an opinion on a forum.
