Welp YG did too, Rose and Jennie were feautered on GD's album in 2012, Jennie even was in one of his videos and performed at Inkigayo, Jisoo's been doing a lot of CF,drama part and other cameos in Yg act videos, Lisa was face of his clothing line, so we kinda knew the members 4 years before debut, we just didn't know which ones will be in the group, and they already had a color in their group name, so the RV stans can stop with the "they copied their name from Red Velvet 1!111!!!
YG teased them then stopped.
SM revealed 4 members of RV as SM Rookies and continuously promoted them. There was no telling when/if Jennie and friends would ever debut. YG wheeled them out for some promo slots as you said, but then they were swiftly put back in the dungeon with 2NE1's English album.
But we knew Seulgi, Irene and Wendy would be in RV right from the beginning.
So my motivation to finish T-Ara's discog has been, like, zero. Should I move on to Red Velvet / 2NE1 y'all?
Do both. 2NE1 is like classic K-Pop 101 so definitely check them out. And Red Velvet is fresh and new from the latest generation of groups and they're great all-rounders.

You need more determination. But in all seriousness, I wouldn't sit through all of T-ARA's album tracks, if you've heard all the singles, then you've listened to everything you need to hear, sooooo I'd move on to 2NE1. They've got a very US electropop-influenced discography. Red Velvet is honestly not that good as I see it, bar their singles Ice Cream Cake and Dumb Dumb. Their pretty new, so the rest of their discography is mostly 90s-styled R&B and ballads. Not for me, but might be for you.

So...did you just skip their first full album The Red or...?
YG cancelled "YG SNSD" mediaplay long ago, It has been revealed that OT4 has been chosen for over a year, and the plans for a big SNSD-esque group were cancelled.
But yeah, both RV and BP were planned thoroughly by their companies, it's stupid to assume otherwise.

But when the BP member teasers were coming out each week, people didn't seem to know how many more weeks they'd be revealing members for?

Literally five of their songs… the rest are Hip-Pop and Electropop…
All of those songs insert R&B styled vocal breaks where there otherwise wouldn't be if RV wasn't a half-pop/half-R&B hybrid group. Their songwriters literally namechecked key tracks in the genre. It's kind of hard to ignore?
