I own all her albums - I have since 2010 - and I can name you any track and exactly how I feel about it. Making Love is the best on Ultra Blue; Fight the Blues is my favorite on my favorite album, Heart Station. My favorite older singles are Sakura Drops, Colors, and Hikari, but I also greatly appreciate Can You Keep a Secret? and Addicted to You, for example. One of my favorite tracks is Goodbye Happiness from her latest singles collection. I appreciate her newer work and direction and won't mind if the new album (which has a September release date that I have memorized) sounds much like Manatsu no Toriame / Midsummer Shower.
I can quote you several sales details from her career; I know that First Love has sold 7.7m in Japan and is the highest selling album there, or 10m in Asia and is the best selling Asian album of all time. I can tell you that Distance was one of two albums ever to open with 3m globally and held the record for over a decade. I can tell you that all her studio albums have (finally, since Ultra Blue was lagging behind) sold over a million copies in Japan, which almost no other artists can claim. I can tell you that The Japan Times named her the most influential artist of this millennium there in 2009.
I can also tell you that she's obsessed with bears and wrote a beautiful little children's song, Boku wa Kuma, that means I'm a Bear. I can tell you her mother, Keiko Fuji, was a legend in her own right with the longest running #1 album in Japanese history and a follow up back-to-back album that extended her own record, and I was deeply saddened to hear about her suicide since I knew she'd struggled with that sort of thing for a long time. I can tell you that she studied at Columbia University for a while, which I found cool because I nearly applied to transfer there.
I can also tell you that Easy Breezy has the worst lyrics of all time, that Can't Wait 'Til Christmas is the most underrated song of all time, and that for whatever reason, Kworb thinks Ultra Blue is her best record.
Enough evidence?
