Céline's album was released a little over a year before Madonna's, but she had far less promotion and still sold more. That's impressive considering I think she's incredibly boring to listen to.

The fact that she reached her career peak a decade later is more impressive, because she's currently the second best selling female artist in history. That most likely means she has moved more total units than Madonna has since the 90s. Madonna is obviously the better artist when you compare holistically, but Céline is a sales juggernaut.

She's a legitimately diverse artist. She is a master when it comes to reinvention which is what has helped her last so long. A lot of her peers (Mariah, Whitney, etc) were never as diverse.

Madonna learned how to compensate. She's not the best singer but she came with pretty strong material each time. She made sure to give you a show. She's an interesting persona in pop music and her variety and ability to adapt to different musical styles has definitely helped her out.

Prince: 1978 to 2016 = 38 years
Janet: 1973 to 2016 = 43 years

The only peers Madonna outlasted are Whitney and Mariah, and only because they debuted after her.

Janet took like 8 years off with nothing. You can't just add those years onto her career like that.

False. She released "Make Me" and a music video in 2009, opened the VMA's and AMA's the same year, released "Nothing" and a music video in 2010, starred in two successful films, headlined the Essence music festival in front of a record-breaking audience and performed on the Idol finale the same year, did a sold-out tour in 2011 and released a New York Times Best-selling book the same year. All of that was accomplished in a 2 year period. That's more work than Madonna did in the same time frame. Janet only took half of 2012, 2013 and 2014 off. But we can say the same for Madonna who didn't really do anything in 2013 or 2014 either. So maybe you shouldn't add those years to her career, since they don't matter right?

people wanting to discredit her by saying her controversies are the reasons as to why she is so successful Tons of artists have tried controversy yet they never lasted as much as Madge or were ever as acclaimed as she is. Take a look at Miley Cyrus, she was hot for a minute and where is she now?

Reality is, Madonna's music is amazing and that is the reason as to why is she has been successful for such a long time. She might pull stunts but the music is always there and that is why she is so acclaimed and her music sells so much.
