Lol Taylor's writing supersedes Katy's though. Taylor wrote an entire LP by herself Katy could NEVER do that ever.
But it doesn't though. Taylor's writing is just as bad as Katy's.
Katy Perry also works with producers and doesn't need to write every song by herself in order to be recognized as a great songwriter. Look at Mariah. She's never written an entire album by herself, but EVERYONE recognizes her talent in that field.
Songs now days tend to take a bit longer to peak on the charts (it took DW 2 months to peak) so Rise will do fine, especially after the Olympics + The VMAs.
Writing an album by yourself isn't a damn talent. I can write an album all by myself too and release it. Doesn't mean I'm an amazing writer

Umm yeah, most soundtrack/promo singles flop or underperform unless the song itself catches on or not entirely associated with the film. For example, ALL of Taylor's soundtrack singles underperformed but yet her lead singles always do well.

Her discography is actually a perfect piece of evidence suggesting lead status matters.
We have two huge soundtrack singles this year (Just Like Fire, Can't Stop the Feeling), and one huge soundtrack single from last year (Earned It), and we're going to pretend they can't do well?
Taylor's sales are insane and she's one of the most successful artists ever in the US. No female (or male except Beatles) have ever done what she's done with her first 5 records. I give her another album or two to kinda solidify her status as the greatest in terms of chart stats (US only of course, globally she's nothing).
Of course impact and real world is the most important. And she's not anywhere NEAR being the most, US or global. In the "real world" she's just the very successful artist of the moment but her impact is severely lacking. We all know what her defining moments are. Hehe.
Edit: she's basically the equivalent of Garth Brooks but she was able to successfully cross over to mainstream so that sets her apart. But she's still nothing special in the real world.
