That's going to be the showdown to end the series, they have to tie up all the loose ends first. It's been hinted at that the entire series isn't really about the Iron Throne, it's about the war to come with the White Walkers
Exactly. The big picture is that all of these stupid humans were too busy fighting over some stupid throne that they didn't even realize the white walkers were coming to destroy all of them.
