as much as i'd love parliament to veto this, referenda are extremely rare so when they're held they're a huge deal. the result of a referendum not being respected by mps (and let's be real, despite the fact i'm seething at leave winning, they won by 1 million votes so it wasn't that close) would mean huge backlash. mps aren't going to risk their seats (lots of labour voters voted to leave so labour mps aren't going to risk losing the support from them) or destroying their party.
