The Orlando killer went through three background checks and wasn't on a watchlist. And do people know they are on the watchlist? Like if they go buy a gun, and get told no, won't that tip them off that they are being watched? Also if they haven't been convicted a crime and are just being watched/investigated (like Hillary), why should they lose their rights?

Even if she didn't write that herself, she's the Attorney General so she REVIEWS everything that is mailed out. What she should've done was tell the writer "No, that's too much. Only mention that voters picked NO, don't say things like this, please".

It's good that's she's getting out there and keeping one eye on things, but she knows she done messed up and she still tries to justify her actions rather than say I'm sorry, I should've stood up for you guys sooner. Just own up to it, that's my problem with her responses.

A simple "I shouldn't have approved that Court document" or "Yes, the case was too dragged out" would be enough.

Your posts are always very thoughtful and well-written. Just wanted to say that. I'd be you if I didn't have the urge to act out. A lot.

May I answer?
1) If you're on a no-fly list you'd certainly be aware of that. And if you're on a no-fly list shouldn't be able to buy a gun.
2) Yes, they'd know. But how is that a bad thing?
3) It happens every day. Prisons are filled with people who haven't been convicted and are awaiting trials but have lost their civil liberties due to suspicions. Plus even those not incarcerated can lose certain rights when being investigated - f.e. your privacy being violated due to law enforcement wiretapping your phone. It's how the justice system works, the Courts have ruled that some circumstances justify people losing certain rights.

I mean, I'm happy she's helping people, I applaud her for that, but I can't take her 100% seriously until she says "It was a mistake" at least once. So I did some research.

1) You actually don't know you are on a no-fly list until you try to board a plane, since the list is so secret. It's also apparently really hard to get off the list, and you can be arbitrarily placed on with no warning.

Well, you're right it's not the same but they are being placed on a list, not imprisoned. So you could argue the "punishment" fits the crime. Yes, you can't fly or buy a gun but in most cases you need to display some serious behaviour for that to even happen.

I'm not sure there should be a due process for placing someone on a list.. Especially since as you noted, they don't know about it and would only be confronted with it when maybe going to set their plans in motion (or buying a gun without illegal motives).

Either way, sometimes people's civil liberties get (unfairly) violated in order to prevent heinous acts from happening. I'm not sure there's another way to do things.

Gun sellers should easily look this up in the database and refuse to sell a gun. Tipping off the government if they try to buy one should be something they need to do as well. This is just getting ridiculous.

Even if this new legislation makes one person skeptical of buying a gun is worth it because it takes that one crazy person to shoot up dozens of people.
