In the books the storyline Sansa has in the Vale is still shaping up.
They adapted most of it in the trial of the Lords of the Vale by showing how cunning and witty she was outplaying Little Finger himself to further her own position securing her allegiance to the houses of the Vale of Arryn, saving Petyr, indebting him to her, and shedding the Alayne disguise that was a cloak that began being more of a burden than an advantage.
All in one fell swoop with a wonderful performance.
