This was one of the least interesting comic book movies in the CBM age. What a disgrace to the characters. DOFP was a FILM and this felt like a corny fanfiction. I'm surprised it even made this much money.
I hope this is enough for Fox to be happy, I want this cast to continue.
I mean look at Sony. Amazing Spider-Man 2 "only" decreased about 50m from the first and yet that was seen as a failure. This will decrease probably 100+m from DOFP but it's not like a Marvel deal would work with this anyway...
Deadpool broke new ground for the X-Men Universe and of course Fox is looking at that and reworking everything, hence Gambit getting getting sent back before filming and then keeping Channing busy with Kingsman.
Fox has been working with a practice that has worked for about 15 or so years. Them stepping out of that with Deadpool and seeing results will of course change how they do future X-Men movies.
How is the domestic number tragic when it is close to all the other domestic numbers they do?
It's projected to finish $60-70M below DOFP domestically. If a franchise can't grow with new stars then it is tragic and should make FOX reconsider their strategy. It's the Best Selling Comic Of All Time after all.
