Welp! It's official, No Romanian women's (or men's) team in Rio. Only the top 4 teams qualify to the Olympics, and ROU is in 5th place at the qualifier, with one more subdivision left to compete. 11's and 12's on bars. The difficulty just isn't there, and neither is the consistency, for that matter. One can only wonder if this would have turned out differently had Iordache or Lara Jurca competed. Poor Catalina. You know she's only been in the game this long to prevent somthing like this from happening. This is a sad day in the sport .
On a brighter note. . . Team Brazil showed out and gave the home crowd something to be very proud. They are rank 1 right now, with two teams left to compete! If this clip is of any indication, Brazilian fans will be very vocal this summer!

Did you see Ponor's instagram post? I nearly cried
Does McKayla Skinner have any chance to make the US team? She committed to my University for gymnastics. We're all so excited to have her compete for our school this upcoming year!

It's not looking like it. She's the second best vaulter in the US, but her floor scores aren't high enough. Right now, three other athletes, Simone Biles, Maggie Nichols and Aly Raisman are outscoring her on floor. Maggie's injured, and if she doesn't recover, the spot will most likely go to Raisman. Skinner's looking like an alternate. Some weird occurrences would have to happen for her to make the team.

No she doesn't.
Hernandez, Raisman, Douglas, Biles, Smith, Kocian, Locklear, and Nichols all have a great chance of making the team over her. She has a chance of being an alternate though.
And Utah will need her, since they bombed the super six this year.

Noooooo
Oh well, she is gonna slay college! Hopefully MyKayla comes in and show them who's boss. I can't wait to see her live in action
And you're right jpow, Utah bombed. It was very disappointing
A round of applause for Dipa Karmakar, the first Indian woman gymnast to qualify for the Olympics
It's also worth mentioning that Dipa is among an elite group of women vaulters who have successfully landed the Produnova vault in competition. Only two others have managed to pull it off.
In the US, the summer meets will commence, and because it's an Olympic year, they will start early. First up, world champion Simone Biles headlines the Secret US Classic
The Uneven Bars battle royale is going down as bars world champ, Madison Kocian returns to competition to compete against her arch rival, Ashton Locklear.
Noticeably absent are Norah Flatley of Chow's Gymnastics (the gym that produced Shawn Johnson and arguably Gabby Douglas). Norah was a stand out junior gymnast and was pegged as the one to continue Chow's Olympic legacy, but she's been sidelined by injury. The biggest disappointment is the absence of Bailie Key, who, like Flatley, was also a star in the junior ranks and had an impressive debut senior season, medalling in every meet she entered, but she was foolishly passed over for a space on the world team in favor of flop, "uneven bars specialist," Brenna Dowell.
Key has been injured and absent for the entire season, and with only Nationals and the Olympic trials left on the calendar, time is running out for Bailie to make her case.
Across the pond, Europe feels the Bern as the women's competition at the 2016 Longines European Championships heats up! Here are your participating countries . . .
Still don't quite know who Russia is sending, but Paseka is nursing a back injury. So, she won't be coming. New senior hot shot, Angelina Melnikova is set to make her debut, and Ailya Mustafina may return as well. There's no reason why Russia can't top the podium in the team competition if everyone does their job.
If they fail, Team Great Britain will likely snatch. Team GB is sending the usual suspects, the Downie sisters, Becky (with the good hair, LOL) and Ellie, Claudia Fragapane, Ruby Harold, and Rebecca Tunney.
Look out for Italy to make the podium, or will it be the Dutch gymnasts, who made history by qualifying for a world team final?
Will hometown favorite, Giulia Steingeuber, defend her AA title? Will team Romania find redemption? This and many pressing questions will be answered, next weekend!
Yeah, it's really starting to look that way. Bailie and Norah are not on today's updated start list, neither is Maggie Nichols. Laurie's reportedly only competing UB. Simone and Gabby aren't competing AA. So, basically the only thing that's going to be worth watching is who wins round one of Ashton and Madison's bars battle.
But Euros hasn't been much better this year either. The scoring is all over the place. Team GB really does look like the favorite to win the team competition. I don't think Russia's team average on floor broke 14, and these girls are supposed to be the silver medal favorites in Rio ? You can't pay Seda to stay on the beam during her flight series. I'm done with her this year. Give the fifth Oly spot to Melinkova. I had no idea that there wasn't going to be a senior AA final. Steingruber probably would've won it too because she fell twice on beam during qualification and still came in second AA. Iodarche was a no show, but Romania is 4th after Q. The mood this year is really lackluster, like no one is taking it seriously, and I get it. No one wants to peak before the Olympics, but aside from Russia in event finals, GB in the Team competition, and maybe maybe Steingruber in the AA if Iordache doesn't recover in time, I don't expect any other women from Euro countries to make podiums in Rio.
What event do you think should start and end each round in the Olympics?
I remember some years ended with floor, some ended with vault, I know they do rotations, but what would your ideal order?
ideally, imo . . .vault, bars, beam, floor.
vault gets out some the nervous jitters.
bars is more of a calming event and a strength event
beam is the most nervous event, but by the third rotation, you should have settled into the meet
floor is the event that probably has the most room for error and improvisation. It's also a crowd pleaser. So, the meet should end there . . . if you are lucky.

If the gymnasts are seeded first, they'll go VT - UB - BB - FX. Same with team.

Yeah, IDK the American team doesn't have anyone I REALLY enjoy other than Raisman, but just because how dynamic and exciting her routines can be. Simone is almost robotic to the point where I know she'll win and not mess up which takes some excitement out of her routines, and Gabby is just a snooze. Laurie's new floor routine is awful and the girls that are looking good won't make the team (like Alyssa Baumann or Rachel Gowey).
Here is Euros results btw
I'm so happy France got third. I'm hoping they make TF in Rio. My ideal TF would probably be USA, China, Russia, Great Britain, Japan, France, Germany, and Canada.
