Like U&D didn't even entered the top TOP50 at the release (in the summer) but was #1 in December.

Or Jonghyun Deja Boo which was his title track ended up smashing and even being more successful than the title track.

K-Pop eras are highly accelerated so it is usually a "title track" that gets a big promotion. Sometimes idols will promote an album track on music shows in addition to the title track but that's as far as it goes normally.

Because of the fast pace, comebacks usually last a few weeks at most and "mini albums" with 6 tracks are much more common as they are quicker to produce.

It usually happens from release. There are some cases of sleeper hits that just float around top 10 for like months and end up selling a lot (like Twice's debut song).

For a song to become a big hit weeks after release it needs to be associated with something viral, like GFRIEND's video where that girl falls 100 times or EXID's Hani fancam. The biggest struggle for a lot of rookies is exposure, like even if they release something good they need an event for people to find out about it.

I think it goes like previous generation was SNSD x 2NE1 x SISTAR and now it's TWICE x YG Girls or Red Velvet x GFriend. TWICE has pretty much taken up SNSD's mantle and GFriend are huge digital sellers like SISTAR.

I feel like RV's next comeback has a potential to be huge.

They actually have a big fanbase but the R&B ballads didn't connect with their audience. Idk what SM was doing.

But at least they proved they can sing. They just need that "hit" now because the closest they have come so far is ICC.

If RV don't smash this time around I'm not gonna say they're over but I don't think they will be apart of the big 3 tbh. But yeah I see the connection you're making. Red Velvet does seem like it belongs up there.

I think Red Velvet is more like f(x). They definitely aren't as popular in Korea as GFRIEND or TWICE.

We also have to see how the Produce 101 girls groups end up doing, specifically Jellyfish's future GG with Sejeong, Fantagio's GG, and Somi's future GG. They can all potentially give TWICE and GFRIEND a run for their money in terms of popularity.

I think RV will have to fight YG's new GG for a place in this generation's trinity.

They have a summer comeback so SM better not mess it up. This is their chance otherwise they will get stuck in the "f(x)" lane trapped in the mid-tier.
