Even before the post game, I found the main game to be one of the most engaging, stopping Team Rocket was fun and didn't come off as a chore. And having a rival (or any character, for that matter) who experiences some form of character development in THIS series >>>>
Gen 2 and Gen 6 were alike in that they were gens with the fewest additions to the pokedex and a national dex with a large proportion of previous gen pokemon. They differ in where they allocated the remaining time/money: Gen 2 with a great gameplay experience, and Gen 6 with 3d sprites and no post game to speak of
Hopefully Gen 7 pulls a Gen 2 and has a great, long, fulfilling story mode, I don't really need a ton of new Pokes... I'm having trouble remembering a lot of them as is. And please GOD, a better villainous team than Team Flare
