I saw a screenshot somewhere earlier in which he was replying to someone about it over text message and that he said he didn't know the advert was about this. He wasn't told the full story on what the ad would be about. That's really sad
but yeah countries in Asia tend to see white-washing as a good thing. The last time I was in the philippines, I saw a bunch of ads about soap that could help whiten your skin
