I liked the episode! Such a sad ending. Every episode makes me more and more worried for Sansa tho. And I really hope Jorah survives the greyscale now.

It was definitely his idea, but Tthe show runners D&D did their own twist on the "hold the door" story. The supposedly original one was during the Sack of King's Landing. It happened when Hodor was guarding Elia Martell and the Mountain was trying to break into the room to kill her (Tywin ordered him to do that), and she was screaming at him (Hodor) "HOLD THE DOOR, HOLD THE DOOR", but he broke in anyways raped/murdered her.
Hodor was George's idea. It was confirmed in the 'Inside the Episode' for Episode 5. The directors sat down with him and he told them how Hodor originated from.
I don't know if GRRM had previously revealed that the Children had created the White Walkers but it was an interesting reveal all the same. Good of them to sacrifice themselves after the horrors they unleashed.
The natives of the land just wanted a way to fight back against the white man invaders who were trying to steal everything. It may have gone wrong, but maybe the white man shouldn't be so obsessed with conquering and colonizing, eh?

Y'all don't know how much I cried yesterday, that ****ing ending. Hodor is such a sweet and inoffensive character, it's just a giant child, so to see him get sacrificed for Bran and Meera. That Winterfell theme song. The big reveal of his name and why his life got ruined. All of this mixed up. OH MAN.
I haven't really cared about any male character since Tywin died in S4, so maybe that's why I don't understand this outpour of emotion from y'all about this ep.

I half didn't care about his death. Hodor was adorable but also annoying and brought nothing to the table. We'll all forget about him by next week.
