He probably would have never left that cave or it would have taken a long time if it wasn't for that so I'm very glad he did it. It was also a good reminder that the White Walkers are ready and coming closer and closer. And gave us the story about Hodor. I think it was executed perfectly.

Why did the WW want to kill Bran and 3ER? Is their primary motivation to exterminate all Andals and First Men (as programmed by the Children), or does Bran pose a threat to them? I mean, the Night King attacked them personally, he could've simply sent a bunch of wights.
I want to know the motive of the White Walkers. They're clearly intelligent beings, not zombies (like wights).
