Well she said that she was driven by other motives while choosing the songs for _genic and Mint is more of a genuine choice I guess.

weren't the songs selected by her team for her to record the album? I swear I read something like that about them selecting for her over 200 demos songs that would be nice for ha album.

There were over 200 demos, she went through them all herself and selected the ones that resonated with her the most.

It annoys me how she has so much creative control (considering she is the head of Dimension Point) but she doesn't exercise it at all apart from picking out of a few demos.

yeah it kind of annoys me too but I guess she likes to be successful and for that she maintains some kind of idol image imo. and she's very smart for that. numbers don't lie

The way Namie is perceived by the public is an interesting questions because while she's techically not an idol, she's everything one would aspire to be. Helter Skelter the manga was inspired by her (my assuption, but she was the biggest female artist when it was written so it's not a reach), the movie was most likely made with her in mind, the director (Ninagawa) and the main actress (Erika Sawajiri) are her fans.
