I feel like just sitting back and letting people write all your songs defeats the purpose of being artist. You could at least get a co-writer.

Maybe it depends on an artist's aims? Like if I wanted to sing about depression, I'd write my own material because I've been depressed. However, as someone who doesn't have a massive amount of sexual experiences, I wouldn't necessarily depend on myself to solely write a sexy song if I wanted to go that route because I'm not intimately familiar with the topic.

Also, you know, not every songwriter sings - there's no reason why the inverse can't be true as well.

I wasn't being serious, I was tryna sound like a passive aggressive Base section OP. But Cher actually made an album written almost entirely by her in 1999. Called not.com.mercial, first major label release to be done online iirc. It's actually full of some gems that you wouldn't expect from her, lyrically.
