Caught up with this show over the past month! Unpopular opinion, but I really don't like Daenerys. The first and fifth seasons are somewhat interesting for her development, but that's it.
She meandered about pointlessly in Season 2, and she magically conquered Slaver's Bay in Seasons 3 and 4. She always held unyielding, unrealistic ideals and she always had some "badass!!1" asspull whenever she faced any actual trouble. When she and her khalasar were about to die wandering in the desert, Xaro let her into Quarth for little reason. When she had no army to conquer anything, she conveniently got all of the Unsullied in Astapor. Then, Daario and the Second Sons joined her just because she was beautiful. Like

. When she finally settled in Meereen and the weight of her lofty ideals collapsed beneath her, she got saved from her assassination attempt by Drogon coming out of nowhere. Now, she just got all of the khalasars because they were conveniently gathered in one place after they captured her. Her entire storyline feels too convenient and contrived.
Her naivete is never really punished, unlike with the other characters (Tyrion with Shae, Jon at the end of S5). She doesn't face any real consequences for her inexperience (Robb, Renly, Theon) or unyielding ideals (Nedd, Catelyn, Tywin, Stannis). Her character and personality feel so unrealistic compared to the other characters, and she's on the opposite side of the world so she has zero bearing on the fates of the other characters.

Anyway, this show absolutely slays. My favorite main characters are Arya, Cersei, Tyrion and Jon. Varys and Osha are my favorite minor characters. I loved Catelyn and Tywin, and Sansa has been growing on me.
