The difference between Marvel and the other studios is that they (Marvel) are far more faithful to the comics and pay attention to the feedback from fans. Fox doesn't have that kind of history; hell, even Sony is doing better by making the Spider-Man deal with Marvel to share a co-opted Cinematic Universe.
And this is coming from someone who considers Days of Future Past a very high standard for CBMs.

And let's not get into the multiple continuity errors and plotholes that plague the X-Men movies.
Fox services the actor, Marvel services the character.
You cannot convince me that Mystique, who is proud of her mutation in all its aspects, especially the blue skin, is going to be walking around in "normal" skin, trying to hide herself from the world.
You cannot convince me that she has what it takes to lead the X-Men. That just isn't Mystique.
And you definitely cannot convince me that Magneto, a man who witnessed and survived the horrors of the Holocaust, who lost his mother during that time, would go and join a mutant who champions the same theory of social darwinism that Hitler did. Nope.
Not only are the X-Men movies mostly bad because of ****** stories, they're also bad because of the (lack of) substance and sense behind those stories.
MCU for the win.
