It's not like they picked a random country outside of Europe. Australia are HUGE fans of Eurovision, they've been broadcasting it since the 1980s - They love and embrace the message of the competition. Also, they get to contribute money so bigger and better performances.

If they had invited Canada who has literally no interest at all, then I'd understand, but it's no secret how much Australia have been voicing their interest.

Sorry about Czech Republic though :/

I know they do and I understand it is a great option against Russia but if they win they won't be able to host. Why not support a country like Armenia or Ukraine, especially Ukraine, against Russia but back up a country that has to give up their hosting rights because they are on the other side of the world??
