Empoleon is the BEST one. Water/Steel is a unique typing for a starter and it evolved from Piplup. The monkey is a tired Blaziken wannabe and the other is a sixth-rate Venusaur, with it being a reptile with a tree on its back.

I barely even remember the Sinnoh, I hated it, but I think I chose Piplup and managed

I kept expecting Piplup to evolve into a Water/Flying type and he never did of course I got to Pastoria City where he was a Prinplup before I abandoned ha.

Gen V: Grass one
Gen VI: Keromatsu

Gen 3 imo had the best starter trio honestly hard to pick from that set (yes they were a bit ugly but they looked cool)
