iHype, you say in the OP that you're not going to compare sales and streams from 2012 to 2016:

I would compare sales; but comparing sales from 2012 hits to 2016 hits is obviously not smart or fair. I would also compare streams; but comparing streams from 2012 hits to 2016 hits is obviously not smart or fair.
But a couple of minutes later:

Streams actually didn't give Drake some type of advantage, when it's going #1 in sales in most countries it's #1 in (went #1 in sales inside US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, etc) anyways.
You're literally contradicting yourself in your own thread
One Dance made Drake global, allowed his album to do great worldwide and he'll also be touring worldwide. The statement applies both ways.
We can also compare chart runs too? They gave an overall run picture.
I can thread that when One Dance is done reigning.

It definitely is an advantage since Starships was selling loads weekly as well. You saying One Dance would of sold like Starships in 2012 is without merit as well considering Drake released a since with a WW global icon (Rihanna) and it still failed to meet the level of success Starships had.
Starships sold 7+ million. How much will one dance sell?
Again, sales from 2012 versus 2016.
The Motto a 2011 single sold 3.5 million. Work, a 9 week #1 hasn't sold 2 million.
Are you saying TM is bigger than Work?

I'm not contradicting myself at all. Did you even read?
I said in the OP comparing the sales were pointless. The poster then said "well Starships sold 10M" in its defense, and again, I said comparing the sales were pointless because obviously Starships wouldn't have sold as much in 2016 and One Dance would've sold more in 2012.

I didn't say it would've sold like Starships. There's no proof regarding that.
What I did say was singles sell less now and would've sold much more in a better climate. Singles in 2012 sold much better overall. This literally isn't deniable as music industry reports prove… sales are down widely.
Would you compare a 2008's album sales to a 2016's album sales? Obviously not since album sales are down nearly 50% since 2008.
Digital sales are also already down nearly 50% since 2012 so it's even dumber to bother comparing them.
Drake's other singles also have nothing to do with this. We are comparing One Dance and Starships. Not Work or Take Care and Starships.

What's hard to understand?
You're the one that made the comparison. And you have no problem including drakes streaming enhanced chart peaks despite streaming not being big then like now. So don't complain about sales being bigger back then.
And yes, the motto would be bigger. Sales>>>>>peaks

Drake's chart peaks would be the same in almost every country with no streaming. Went #1 in sales in EVERY country it has gone #1 in, so streaming didn't "enhance" his peaks.
You could do research instead of incorrectly making statements because you have a strong dislike for him.
And no, sales isn't the say all be all in what's a bigger song.
"One Sweet Day" went #1 for 16 weeks and sold 2M which was a lot for a #1 then. "The Boy Is Mine" went #1 for 13 weeks and also sold 2M which was a lot then.
Are you saying The Motto is also bigger than songs that spent 16 & 13 weeks at #1, with the former being the best performing song of the decade? Sales change and fluctuate quickly for songs over time. What was the normal sales for a hit 5 years ago would now be rare.
Thus, Billboard and every other charting company ranks all-time hits (from different years like One Dance and Starships) based on chart runs.
In terms of peak One Dance (thanks to streaming) but in terms of impact and overall success Starships by far will be the bigger and more remembered song
