Yeah, Starships did more bad than good for her career.
While The Pinkprint may have disappointed people who stanned for the songs Nicki released during the Soundcloud era (early 2014), The Pinkprint is still an amazing album. It's easily her best album to date. And I'm sure her next album will be even better.
One Dance without a music video, any promotion, or white washed tactics has outpeaked Starships nearly everywhere and it hasn't even reached it's peak yet.
Drake in 2016, is more global than Nicki ever was. One Dance #1 in US, France, UK, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, and Netherlands this Summer.
Oh, and Nicki achieved her (smaller) global success with whitewashed EDM Pop catered songs.
One Dance is a dancehall/R&B tinged song. Embarrassing it's still a bigger hit than all of Nicki's pop songs.

Ok, sure. Drake has a hot song. Good for him! But you don't see me pulling out Tik Tok and using that as a bar for why $hit is more successful than Lady Gaga/Katy/etc. You have to look at the circumstances, relevance, media trends, etc etc.
Going #1 WW is an accomplishment but all it means is that you have a popular song.
