Nah, everybody can make a "comeback" with the right material & expectations. Like, she might not get huge sales or anything, but she would win SO much if her & her team truly cared about making something meaningful.

I found this at home and I still have to read it. I'm sure it's a literary masterpiece.

Pray You Catch Me = Bey feeling insecure and lonely
Hold Up - Sorry = Bey feeling angry and unapologetic about everything Gay-Z related
6 Inch = Bey distracting herself from her problems by working 24/7
Daddy Lessons = Bey thinking about the choices she's made in life
Love Drought - Forward = Working it out with Gay-Z
Freedom - All Night = Problems are finally solved and back in love with Gay-Z
Formation = Back to her old self and slaying like usual

maybe it's just too "abstract" for me, but a lot of it feels kind of forced. The movie and songs worked out well for the first four scenes or so, and then it just kinda veered off course and the story was mostly sacrificed for pretty visuals imo

I totally disagree.
The film has a few themes going on, and manages to weave them together really nicely:
- Black history and culture, with the scenes at the plantation where the roles are both inverted and "normal"
- Her history with her father and the idea that "women marry their fathers," with his cheating tying into Jay's
- Lemonade: When life gives you ___, whether it be racism or cheating, you make due with what you've been given and prosper
- There's also a bit of rememory going on which is a really interesting addition.
The plot is that she got cheated it on, she was mad, then the story goes back in time to look at the bigger pictures of her lineage and black people in general, and comparing her struggles with that of the black community today, and learning to not give up.
At least, that's what I took from it.

yeah see, this is where she loses me She kinda had to stretch to connect infidelity with slavery and oppression there. Maybe it's cuz I'm not black nor a woman, but it felt like i was watching a movie in the first half, a totally different movie for 1/3 in the middle, and then just a mess of trying to combine it at the end

I think it's because you hate Beyonce. If Britney did it, you'd be creaming right now.

well, i mean if you're comparing someone to Katy, how could they not win?
Rih doesn't have any particularly acclaimed albums tho, as someone priding herself on being a singles artist with filler to finish off albums.
None of them finished in the T100 on critics' year end lists. Well, maybe Anti can break her losers' streak despite being a FLOP with the American buying public.
Even Carly Rae's Kiss was able to finish in the T40 with critics the year it came out.

not at all I praised Lemonade throughout the Lemonade thread. Rewatching it now, it feels more hollow

She'd need to go back to her 2001 body, dancing skills, and she'd need top notch pop music again. What are the odds of all that ever happening?

I think the Formation video set up the themes for the film (the black oppression ones), so it made a little more sense to me. The monologues confused me a biT, they were very slam poetry-y, but afterwards I was able to connect the dots. I need to watch it again to pick up the rest of it though.

Double Rainbow has an amazing production
the lyrics make it awful (they would have been better without Sia)

i wish she had maybe just focused on that theme, or tried to drive it home a little harder from the get go
Cuz I went into it really liking the angle about infidelity, fear of losing a relationship, then it turned into daddy issues...and then somehow, she tried to connect that into the struggles of black people and then ended with New Orleans
