It's actually far better. It may just be that it tends more toward my personal preferences, but I find it to be a more ambitious, relatable, and musically well-executed release. It's not stylistically similar to ST, really, but it feels like a clear progression from it.
BEYONCÉ was the concept, the product of a rather ambitious idea to make a visual album that draws from quieter musical trends to bring something a little atypical to the forefront of attention. It was nothing that hadn't been done before, visually or sonically, but it was on a bigger scale than these things had been previously.
LEMONADE is the culmination of that model. It's a full movie rather than just separated, videos. It has a cohesive and constant lyrical theme in its narration of her thoughts and emotions as a lover (real life or otherwise) betrays her trust. And honestly, I find the individual tracks on average to be superior to those of ST, though as I said that could be more subjective personal preference than anything else. 6 Inch, All Night, Sorry, Pray You Catch Me, etc. Almost every track is phenomenal.
And the Wynter Gordon elements show pretty clearly on the tracks with which she was involved, and I LOVE Wynter.
