As far as I remember, they've always been booed. Sometimes it's justified tho (t.A.T.u. were plain rude and stuck up in 2003, and they were so sure they'd win when they couldn't sing at all - or in 2010 when they only got sets of 8-10-12 points from ex-URSS countries and nothing else, finishing 11th). That's because they don't allow the poorer countries to win. Most of the victories since 2009 have been planned, let's be real 2012, 2013 and 2015 are blatant examples. Massive promo prior to the contest, media overexposure, and stellar jury votes to ensure the victory to a country that could afford to host. Had La La Love been Sweden's entry and Euphoria Cyprus', the winner would've still been Sweden.

Barei justifies her sad reaction when she visited Russia to promote her candidacy along with other contestants. According to reports by the singer herself, the singer from Israel, Hovi, was treated very badly at the airport as they laughed at him "out loud and not hiding it at all" because he was wearing makeup and shady eyes.

On the plane he tried to disguise his appearance cleaning off part of his makeup to set in within the country, and in the passport control they broke his passport on purpose, they looked at him several times and started laughing within eachother. When he complained that they were breaking the passport, they kept laughing and left him unable to enter the country. I just couldn't believe what I was saying and I was about to make a scene but Hovi just told me to let it go.
"I didn't wanna believe everything they said about Russia but when I saw it at the airport I thought to myself 'this is such a shame'. And also thought of the eurofans saying 'if Russia wins ...' Of course this doesn't mean the artist doesn't deserve it, but one thing is that and then the consequences for the Eurofans if a country like that wins". Stated the Spanish candidate.
