I've just been taking a hiatus, I felt super drained after S7 and I feel a good bit drained now post S8. I've been itching to get back to writing but I haven't had any ideas that have piqued my interest yet. I'm in no rush to get back to writing (I know I'll do a lot of it this summer when I have more free time). It will all come to me when it comes to me.
I'm still coming up with ideas, but I'm really much more focused on making the lyrics become songs at the moment.

Pop songs can be well-written, but you have to find your own voice. This isn't Platinum Poetry, but you have to have something unique to say in songwriting. When you use clichés or common language too often, you lose your voice and your song loses personality. There have been millions of songs about nearly every theme, so you have to bring something new to the table.

That gives me a kewl idea. I heard you're doing an FAQ for 9xPH but maybe you could make it like a Q&A with responses from judges or past contestants so we could get multiple views on things

1. Rihanna - Work
2. Fifth Harmony - Work From Home
3. Tinashe - Watch Me Work
4. Iggy Azalea - Work
5. Britney Spears - Work Bitch
They all became smash hits and pretty much talk about the same thing kinda using the same language
And they all smashed on Billboard! Including Watch Me Work at bubbling under!

Yeah, I've been playing with that idea, but I'm not sure how to implement it without the OP getting cluttered, you feel?

Doesn't mean any of them are good, especially lyrically!

I've been writing so much in the past few days, I'm still trying to find my sound ( after 6 years old writing ). I know it's normal to venture and write different genres and all, but I can't really find one where I feel connected too specifically.

I know what ballpark my sound is in - kinda Tove Lo-ey - but I'm infatuated with electric guitars

But they are still hits. The General Public doesn't care about lyrics.
When I listen to the song the first time, the melody/vocals/production attract me. Not the lyrics. I check the lyrics after I like the song I just listened to.

Tbh, if I had to use an artist as a description for what I'd like my sound to be, it'd be Loreen if she was more...electronic. I would want my FUNL album to be a mix of string instruments, heavy bass, and synthesizers. I'd also want like...flutes and harps but those are slightly more 'exotic' if you'd like to call it that.

I think my kind of sound would be a mix of Ellie Goulding in her Lights era and something a little folksier like Alex and Sierra.

With my songs, I try to produce a track with it as a track, and it's always a different genre. So far my songs consists of: bubble gum pop, Rock/pop, Rock/alternative, Rock/Scremo, Indie/rock, Alternative/pop, Alternative/indie, Dance/indie, indie/country. And then I got my Ballads, comedy, straight Indie and straight easy listening type songs. I don't really have a specific artist/s as such as for my sound since I just choose a bit of this and a bit of that with everything I listen to, but with my vibe. Maybe Tove Lo/Lights/Kesha/The Pretty Reckless? I'm not sure tbh.
