#3 Just Someone I Used to Know
Dolly Parton + Porter Wagoner are basically the original Lady Gaga + Tony Bennett, except they made actually good music together All of their duets scream talent, beauty and all colours of the rainbow but this definitely stands out the most.
#2 Dumb Blonde
Only on her debut single but impactful and impressive nonetheless! It's amazing how it's still so relevant to this day, with many present teenagers being able to relate to the title heroine, but on the other hand, it's a total self-empowerment anthem which was obviously an inspiration behind all of other self-empowerment anthems, legend tbh.
#1 Jolene
Do I really need to say more?
HMs: I Will Always Love You (Whitney could only wish of such a heartfelt, emotional performance!), 9 to 5 (poor every other Hot 100 #1!), Blue Smoke (it's just impressive how she was able to serve such a masterpiece 50+ years into her career!)
Slay Princess of Country Dolly (with the queen being Reba, the one with 58 Country Top 10s of course)!
What's there to say? A single from her debut album, 'One Of The Boys', released 8 years ago and yet, remembered and listened to even today. And deservingly so - Hot n Cold is a fun, catchy pop song that managed to capture the mainstream sound of 2008 while sounding, I dare to say, timeless. A favorite of my since the first time I heard it.
Love it till death.
in another life, I would make you stay...
An underrated masterpiece. I didn't really fully appreciate the song until the summer of '14, when a certain special someone left my life as quickly as it entered it. One liquor-fueled and tears-filled night with this heart-wrenching ballad on repeat marked the creation of a special connection between me and this song. Sometimes I still shed a tear to it ngl.
I feel like I'm already there...
This was hard since there is so many good songs left, but I went with my fave from her 3rd album 'Prism'. I've nothing but *adored* this 90's house throwback anthem ever since she posted the snippet. I will never get over the fact that this wasn't the single because God knows it deserved to smash. This was a new direction for her sounds-wise, definitely a risky move, but it paid off - she sounds ethereal and magical. God I wish she released this.
I haven't even been posting any links of my threads/posts in here
Oh well, the threads were mainly flops but I made a fair amount of people laugh in one thread or another and only escaped with one WP. Bye bye Cheryl, it's been fun! Now to stan All Saints (but for real)
i feel like it gets a bad rep for being included heavily in academy award nominated film fifty shades of gray. its a great song, but i think im just a sucker 4 pop songs with an explosive chorus. deserved every inch of success it got. It is a shame that it had to be anchored to such an awful movie, and that its success basically sank the rest of the era. a dark horse tea. ~ 5/5
Keep On Dancin'
another ellie song with wispy verses and a hard-hitting chorus. why this wasn't the follow-up to lmlyd is beyond me. the tropical elements would have fit right in on us radio a few months ago. its a more aggressive side of ellie, which i hope we see again on E4. the only thing holding it back from greatness is an over-reliance on the instrumental paired with a rather repetitive chorus. ~ 4.5/5
Under The Sheets
this is a hidden gem. its an interesting direction to go in while still staying true to the album (and what would becoe ellie's signature) sound. its slightly ominous in the verses, but the chorus is pure pop. might have done pretty well as a single, but i could see the somewhat overbearing bleep-bloopy production bringing it down. ~ 4/5
*quick break in my halsey swap character because I need it lol*
What I've learned:
*being a super-SJW is extremely annoying and makes me kinda hate myself. IDK how people do it, it's depressing.
*there are very few things to like about Halsey.
*some members think I'm actually a SJW now.
*there are probably things I'll take away from doing this when I'm done. I'll be less sarcastic/shady on this site after I'm done with this. Realizing it's not worth it anymore.
*I can't wait until this is over but I'm sticking with this role until the very end. Thurs night right? *braces self*
CB stanning ain't that bad. People hate his guts but I've been fine (even with the stan-shaming of some in the Tinashe thread). I could go for a month if I really wanted to. He has songs that are also good & modern so that helps
