I don't know about American rules, but these are the Scottish rules and presumably for the rest of the UK too. If they test then another reason I agree it shouldn't matter.

I think they should be allowed. All blood transactions gets tested regardless of the donors sexual orientation. But, giving the stigma that comes with being gay and HIV then I can understand the restrictions.....if we were still living in the 80s.

I've donated blood before and it's not a great experience in any regard. You guys aren't missing anything.

Assuming they've not had sex in the past year. It's normal for a couple to have sex, straight couples can and don't have restrictions regarding giving blood. That's the point I'm making. It shouldn't matter if the two men are monogamous and clean.

Yes, I agree. However, HIV and other STDs are transmitted much easier through anal sex. Couple that with the hook up culture that is so prevalent among gay men, and you have astronomical STD statistics when compared to the straight population. Facts, sorry. Maybe control your libidos better?

And yes I think that the law is outdated, created in fear from when HIV was a mystery illness. It would even apply to two men who lost their virginity to each other.
