I can't say for the whole South America, but as a brazillian i would say people here aren't used to artists coming with every tour. For example, Rolling Stones were HUGE with their concerts here, but i don't remember the last time they came to Brazil, so there's a lot of anticipation for that. Coldplay is t he same case.
Beyoncé and Madonna are examples as well. They both were huge with I Am Tour (first time in Brazil) and Sticky & Sweet (first time in almost 20 years) but weren't able to replicate the success with their next tours (both only 2-3 years after the last time they came). They still did great, though, as there aren't many artists doing more than 2-3 stadiums in a tour here in Brazil, and they both had 4 with Mrs. Carter Show and MDNA.
I guess Beyoncé would sold out if she came for 1 or 2 concerts only (like Sao Paulo and Rio), but not another "big" tour like the previous ones.
