Why would they do that though? There is so much story left to tell. Introducing Prue back into the mix brings a new life to Charmed. How they will continue with their destiny as The Power Of Three with four sisters. Will one have to give up her powers? Prue and Paige finally meeting and sharing the same power according to their prophecy. Exploring different dynamics of the sisters' relationships with each other. The advancement of their powers. Will any of their spouses be dead? They have a ton of material they can explore.

I think the whole point of that was to show that she wouldn't use her powers on innocents. And obviously to show that they would risk their lives to save innocents in a very dramatic way.

You could say the same for Piper but her powers were very volatile at the time since she just got her blasting power so she didn't know if it would work which is why she threw herself in front of the doctor too.
